flooded pavements

Venice is prone to rain and floods at high tides at certain times of the year but they are very prepared and bring out tressle type tables that you walk across at these times.  They also sound a siren as a warning of imminent floods and the idea of depth so that you can stay put until it has subsided.  At this time of the year (November) waterproofs and wellies are advisable, and as a precaution in the winter in general !  The above was as it started to flood in St Marks Square, we had sirens at dinner, the Vaporetti still ran and we walked across tressle tables on our return to the Vivaldi but by morning it was clear again.
